Flamengo's Marcelo scored a stunning wing break-through in their victory over Santos, securing a crucial three points for the Brazilian giants.
The match was a closely contested affair with both teams fighting hard to secure a win. However, it was Flamengo who emerged victorious thanks to Marcelo's impressive performance on the wings.
Marcelo's breakthrough came early in the second half when he made a spectacular run down the left wing and crossed the ball into the box. His strike partner, Gabriel Jesus, was waiting for him and fired home from close range to give Flamengo the lead.
From that point onwards, Flamengo dominated the match and were never really threatened by Santos. Marcelo's pace and skill on the wings proved to be too much for the Santos defence to handle,Serie A Stadium and they struggled to create any meaningful opportunities.
Despite their dominance, Flamengo had to wait until the final minutes of the match to extend their lead. Marcelo again found himself on the left wing and made another incisive run forward. This time, he sent in a cross which was headed in by defender Victor Ramos to seal the victory for Flamengo.
Marcelo's performance was a reminder of why he is one of the most talented players in Brazil. He showed great speed, agility and vision on the wing, and his ability to cut inside and score goals from distance is something that will make him difficult to defend against.
With this victory, Flamengo moved up to third place in the league table and are now just two points behind leaders Palmeiras. They will be hoping to build on this momentum as they look to maintain their position at the top of the table.
